The Fabrication department is responsible the fabrication of raw materials as needed to manufacture quality Point Eight Power products in a timely manner. The overall objective of the CNC Machine Operator III position is to engage in all activities concerned with learning how to properly produce parts by operating a CNC machine and ensure that jobs are completed and shipped as scheduled while meeting our quality standards. Consistent and accurate modeling and representing of the Point Eight Power brand, mission, vision, values and organizational strategy are essential to achieving the goals of the organization

Essential Accountabilities

  • Support the effort of being a best-in-class manufacturer by assisting 1st and 2nd class CNC Machine Operators in operating either the Punch Press or Break Press machines in order to cut hole or bend materials as needed for the fabrication of Point Eight Power products. This includes the following:
  • Learning and assisting in retrieving the punch list, and parts list, and applicable CNC programs in order to create parts as needed per job.
  • Locating and moving or pulling raw sheet metal material as described by the parts list per job.
  • Assisting the 1st and 2nd class CNC Machine Operators by loading materials onto the machine in preparation for punch or break, and safely securing materials on the machine with the use of clamps, fingers or other fixtures.
  • Learning how to select the right die clearance, punches, tools, or other attachments needed to complete projects based on the specifications of the materials; learn how to install and align them as need to ensure optimal performance.
  • Learning how to use tools, such as calipers and protractors, to measure finished products to ensure they meet requirements.
  • Assisting the 1st and 2nd class CNC Machine Operators in staging parts as completed in order to prepare for the next phase of fabrication.
  • Performing scheduled and repair maintenance of machines, as required. This also includes maintaining, sharpening and replacing tools, as necessary.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, well-organized work area.
  • Perform necessary side operations during machine cycle time as required.
  • Developing competencies in order to become a 3rd class CNC machine operator.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

  • High School Diploma/GED, required
  • Forklift certification, preferred.

Experience

  • 2 - 5 years of sheet metal fabrication, preferred.
  • Less than 1 year of CNC operator experience, preferred.
  • Intrapersonal Skills: Self-motivated and able to identify, examine, and resolve issues independently from others. Hold a strong regard for guidelines, procedures and integrity.
  • Engineering and Technology: Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Tools include: Trump, Accupress, Allen wrenches, grinders, break press, punch press, forklift, crane, shears and calipers
  • Technical Experience: Excellent mechanical skills and aptitude in supporting CNC sheet metal equipment, ability to visuals 3D parts from cut sheets. Good math skills and qualified in basic computer skills.
  • Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming such as Microsoft Office; knowledge of accounting software such as AS 400.
  • Verbal & Written Communication Skills: This position requires basic skills (ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.)
  • Math Skills: This position requires intermediate skills (calculate figures/discounts, proportions, area, etc.)
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness: The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Visualization: The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
  • Manual Dexterity: The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Physical Requirement: Demanding. Must have ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Employee must be at to sit, climb or balance, hear, use hands, taste/smell, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, talk, and reach with hands and arms.

Working Conditions: Conditions vary per work site: can be high heat, high humidity, exposure to electrical shock and mechanical parts, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals with fumes and/or airborne particles.

Overtime: As needed.

Hours: Monday to Friday 3pm to 12am, must be open to some weekends
