Overview:

Role: School Groundskeeper

Pay Rate: $19/hr

Hours: Mon-Fri (7am-3pm)

Location: 270 Duck Pond rd Locust Valley NY 11560

In this role, you will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the school's outdoor areas, ensuring that the grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained. Responsibilities

 

• Maintain all landscaping and outdoor common areas, including mowing, edging, and trimming.
• Perform daily clean-up of sidewalks, parking lots, and playgrounds.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and snow removal tools.
• Assist with minor repairs and maintenance of outdoor equipment and tools.
• Maintain trash receptacles and ensure grounds are free from litter.
• Maintain appropriate wood carpet levels in playgrounds and inspect equipment for safety.
• Assist with snow removal and drainage cleaning as needed.
• Provide support during school events by setting up and cleaning outdoor facilities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

 

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2-3 years of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping and fundamental knowledge of mechanical equipment used (lawn mower, edger, weed trimmer, tractor mower, vehicle, post hole digger, chain saw, tractor accessories, ladders, dry line maker, paint field striper, snow plow, hand tools and power tools).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, snow plows).
• Must be able to lift/move up to 70 pounds, work from ladders, and perform tasks requiring bending, reaching, and crawling.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in various weather conditions.
• Must be flexible, cooperative, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Must be available for on-call duties, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Requires physical exertion to manually lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
• Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching
• Requires climbing and balancing
• Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
• Must provide a criminal background check.
